Winter Focus Group ‘Focus on Fitness’ 2009

‘The running group was fantastic. Before starting with the group I avoided running at all costs. I could barely run a few hundred metres without stopping. Over the course of the training sessions I improved so much and ran the whole course several times. I really enjoyed getting to know all the other people in the group and everyone was really friendly and encouraging. ‘When I fell pregnant I was just getting back into fitness after a long break. I needed a program that would adapt to the changes in my body and advice on safe ways to keep increasing my fitness whilst carrying a baby. I found out Sarah was qualified to do this and being a mother herself made her experience and full support even more valuable. Thanks to Sarah not only did my fitness increase but I have been able to achieve weight loss and noticeably leaner muscle tone in my arms, shoulders, bottom, hips and legs. I didn’t expect to achieve this ever let alone during  pregnancy. I am feeling so fit and happy with my body and it’s because Sarah knows exactly the right ways she can push me to get the results I was hoping for. Thanks Sarah

‘Thanks for organising the Running Group. I still find it hard to believe I managed to do it at my age.'ve never been a'runner' but it just goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks.I know I had a slow start with the group due to illness, but finally joining the weekly sessions really did help my determination to 'Do This Thing!!'I'm never going to run marathons, but I felt a tremendous amount of satisfaction that I attempted the run let alone finishing under my goal time. I joined to meet new people, to challenge myselfalso to shake up my boring routine andcertainly did all that.Thanks again Sarah.You certainly know how to get people motivated and moving. Shan Brown’s Story
‘My name is Shan Brown and I turned 52 years of age in September 2007. I woke up one morning and realised how overweight and unfit I was, and had been for so many years. My husband had just undergone an emergency quadruple heart bypass and I decided it was time to do something about my own health………so I joined my local gym. I had not set foot in a gym for approximately 20 years and was pretty apprehensive at first.  To my good fortune I was assigned Sarah Shaw to do my gym introduction which included showing me how to use the various weights and machines as well as setting up an exercise program in the weight room to suit my needs.   I also joined Sarah’s Total Tone and Aqua classes on Saturday morning.   As my fitness level improved, I included a ½ hour personal training session each week. That was 7 months ago…...Sarah has changed my life. Sarah understands what it means to me to achieve my end goal of a healthy life.   Apart from designing an exercise plan just for me, she makes herself available to talk through dietary and emotional issues.  She encourages me and pushes me to a point I never knew I was capable of.  She cares and I truly appreciate all that she has done for me. Not only have I lost 12 kg but my fitness level has greatly improved. I am full of energy these days and greatly enjoying life. ’

Krissy Coomer’s Story
‘After having children later in life and suffering from PND, I finally realised that my ballooning weight was getting out of control.  I have always battled with my weight, but just became complacent that a size 16/14 was the best size for me.  I played lots of sport over the years and never seemed to get below 86 kgs.  When my husband finally    encouraged me to join the gym it was a huge step for me.  I had been teaching for 20 years prior to having our beautiful girls, but now I was lonely and had lost my confidence.  After tipping the scales at 106kgs in mid October 2008,  I didn’t think I had the  confidence to show my face in Goodlife. 
 
A few weeks after finally joining I met Sarah.  She encouraged me to join some other women in a group PT session once a week.  I seemed to be getting a little more familiar with the gym and the classes.  Sarah showed me that working out was fun and she encouraged me all the way.  Having Sarah’s encouragement and belief in me made my enthusiasm for exercising a priority in my life.  I was having ‘me’ time and I was enjoying it.  My girls were extremely happy in kids club and my life started changing. 

I joined the Focus group that Sarah had planned to help us get over the Xmas break.  I seemed more focused and committed than ever before. It was a great kick start to good health and fitness.   Soon I started seeing results and feeling healthier.  I seemed to have my new lifestyle under control and my confidence began to grow.  Having Sarah to encourage me and guide me was such an advantage, as only women truly understands how a woman’s body and mind ticks.

The knowledge and personal experiences that Sarah shared with me gave me inspiration during my highs and lows.  I learned how to set realistic goals and small ones so as not to give up.  I finally felt capable and fully supported.  Sarah never judged my weaknesses and was so committed into helping me and all the other women in her care. After winning the most committed in the Xmas Focus Group, it gave me a buzz and finally accepted that YES! I can do it.  I have now lost a total of 23 kgs and love my new life.  My children have a happier and healthier mummy and my husband is very proud of me.  Thanks Sarah you are awesome.’

‘My daughter-in-law commented recently that not too long ago they would have to drive around looking for a car space to park as close as possible to wherever we were going purely so I didn't have to walk too far. Now at least once per week I run 5km and I've just completed my 2nd official 5km run in my best time ever on a very hilly course. That's thanks to Sarah's Running Group. Each week for the past 7 weeks we've been training for the Wingate Park to Park run. When we first started training I had to walk 4 times within the 5km and it took me something in excess of 45 minutes. Today's effort was under 32 minutes and I still feel like I could have done more. I could not have gone through this change without Sarah's training and support. As Sarah keeps telling me, you really don't know what you can do until you give it a try.
